Hey, David!! Oops--I don't know my trees, do I? I've corrected the post to show that they were in cypress trees, not redwoods. I don't think I saw any in redwoods now that you mention it. I guess after I finish my Conservation Big Year, I'll have to start studying up on tree identification.

Laura - I was out with you, Eric Reuss and a few others a week before the MBBF- and delighted in all your stories and your cons. big year. I finally found some time, and recalled easily from memory the google search, to check out your website. Yes, as expected you write beautifully, and inspired, once again to take a Debbie Shearwater experience. Of note all your Excellent' Condor pictures in trees are in Monterey Cypress!! I never would have thought of Condors in any tree other than Pines and Redwoods. Not a very tall tree and not even a good perching tree. As one growing up with Cypresses and Redwoods (My home town is Boulder Creek) I only found out in my adulthood that almost every Monterey Cypress is planted, and quite often where no trees occur naturally. The only places the trees are native are Pt.Lobos preserve where they occupy 20% at best of the preserve in two groves. The other area is a narrow stretch across Carmel Bay between Cypress Point and Pebble Beach, not even in the village of Carmel-by-the-sea which has huge MCs.
One question. Do you have any pictures of birds in a native MCs?
Good luck on getting to 600 or have you reached it?, as I have only read two of your posts.
It was so nice being a tiny part of your quest (and getting my first shore Marbled Murrelet
Lots more posts to go!!
